How to Build a Portal to the End in Minecraft

Understanding the End Dimension

In Minecraft, the End is a mysterious and dangerous dimension that can only be accessed through a portal. It is home to the fearsome Ender Dragon and a wealth of rare and valuable resources. Before you can build a portal to the End, it’s important to understand the dimension and what you can expect to encounter there.

The End is a barren, rocky world with a dark purple sky and a single floating island known as the End island. This island is where the Ender Dragon resides, and defeating it is the primary goal of traveling to the End. However, there is much more to explore and discover in this dimension beyond the dragon.

To access the End, you’ll need to collect Ender Pearls, which can be obtained by killing Endermen, and Blaze Powder, which is dropped by Blaze mobs found in Nether Fortresses. These resources are used to craft Eyes of Ender, which can be used to locate a stronghold where the End portal can be found.

Once you’ve found the stronghold, you’ll need to activate the portal by placing Eyes of Ender into the frame. This will open the portal and transport you to the End dimension, where you’ll need to be prepared for a tough battle against the Ender Dragon and other hostile creatures.

Gathering Resources for the Portal

Before you can build a portal to the End, you’ll need to gather several resources. Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Obsidian – You’ll need 12 blocks of obsidian to build the frame for the portal. Obsidian can be obtained by pouring water onto lava source blocks.

  2. Blaze Powder – Blaze Powder is obtained by killing Blazes, which can be found in Nether Fortresses. You’ll need to collect Blaze Rods and craft them into Blaze Powder.

  3. Ender Pearls – Ender Pearls are dropped by Endermen, which can be found in most biomes at night. You’ll need a total of 12 Ender Pearls.

  4. Diamonds (optional) – While not strictly necessary, having a Diamond Pickaxe can make gathering obsidian much easier.

Once you have these resources, you’re ready to start building the End portal. Note that you’ll need to build the portal in the Overworld, not the Nether or the End itself. The portal is built using obsidian blocks arranged in a 5×5 square, with an empty space in the center. You’ll then need to activate the portal using Eyes of Ender.

It’s a good idea to gather extra resources and prepare yourself before entering the End. The dimension is dangerous, and you’ll need to be prepared to face the Ender Dragon and other hostile creatures.

Building the Frame and Lighting the Portal

To build the frame for the End portal, you’ll need to gather 12 obsidian blocks and arrange them in a 5×5 square. Leave the center block empty. Make sure the obsidian blocks are placed in the correct orientation, as the portal won’t work if they’re facing the wrong way.

Once you’ve built the frame, you’ll need to light it using Eyes of Ender. You can craft Eyes of Ender by combining Blaze Powder and Ender Pearls in a crafting table. To activate the portal, stand near it and use the Eyes of Ender on the empty block in the center of the frame.

Once the portal is lit, it will create a swirling vortex effect. You can now enter the portal and be transported to the End dimension. Note that entering the portal will consume the Eyes of Ender, so make sure you have extras if you need to return to the Overworld.

It’s important to note that the End portal can only be built and activated in the Overworld, not the Nether or the End itself. Additionally, make sure you’re well-prepared before entering the End, as the dimension is dangerous and you’ll need to be ready to face the Ender Dragon and other hostile creatures.

Entering the End and Defeating the Ender Dragon

Entering the End is a daunting task, as it is a dangerous and unfamiliar dimension. Once you’ve entered the End through the portal, you’ll find yourself on a small platform floating in the void. You’ll need to be careful not to fall off the platform, as doing so will result in your death.

The primary goal of entering the End is to defeat the Ender Dragon, which is located on the central island. The dragon is a formidable opponent, and you’ll need to be well-prepared for the battle. Make sure you have plenty of weapons, armor, and food, as well as a strategy for attacking the dragon.

There are several methods for attacking the Ender Dragon. One common strategy is to shoot the dragon with arrows while it is perched on one of the obsidian pillars surrounding the central island. Another strategy is to use a sword to attack the dragon up close, while avoiding its attacks.

Once you’ve defeated the Ender Dragon, you’ll be transported back to the Overworld and awarded an Elytra, a pair of wings that allow you to glide through the air. You’ll also be able to access the End Cities, which contain rare loot and resources.

It’s important to note that the Ender Dragon can be respawned using four Ender Crystals, which can be found on the obsidian pillars surrounding the central island. If you want to fight the dragon again or collect additional loot, you’ll need to find and destroy these crystals.

Exploring the End Cities and Collecting Rare Loot

After defeating the Ender Dragon, you’ll gain access to the End Cities, which are located on islands floating high above the End dimension. These cities contain valuable loot and resources, including Elytra, Shulker Boxes, and Chorus Fruit.

To reach the End Cities, you’ll need to travel through the End dimension and find a portal to an End City. These portals are found on the outer islands, which can be accessed by using Elytra to glide through the air or by building bridges across the void.

Once you’ve reached an End City, you’ll need to navigate through the complex and dangerous structure to find the valuable loot. Be careful, as the End Cities are filled with dangerous enemies, including Shulkers that can teleport and fire projectiles.

One of the most valuable items found in the End Cities is the Elytra, which allows you to glide through the air and explore the world with ease. You can also find Shulker Boxes, which are portable storage containers that can be carried in your inventory.

Chorus Fruit is another valuable resource found in the End Cities. Eating Chorus Fruit will teleport you a short distance in a random direction, making it useful for exploration and transportation.

Exploring the End Cities and collecting rare loot is a rewarding experience, but it’s important to be well-prepared and cautious. Make sure you have plenty of weapons, armor, and food, and be ready for a tough challenge.
