How to Put on a Duvet Cover: A Step-by-Step Guide

Preparing the Duvet Cover and Comforter

Before you start putting on the duvet cover, it’s important to prepare both the duvet cover and the comforter properly. First, make sure that both the cover and the comforter are clean and dry. If your duvet cover has been stored away for a while, you may want to give it a quick wash or iron it to get rid of any creases.

Lay the duvet cover out flat on your bed with the opening at the foot of the bed. If your duvet cover has ties or buttons, make sure they are undone and ready to fasten.

Next, take your comforter and lay it on top of the duvet cover. Make sure the corners of the comforter are aligned with the corners of the duvet cover. If your comforter has corner ties, you can tie them to the corresponding ties on the duvet cover to keep everything in place.

By preparing your duvet cover and comforter ahead of time, you can make the process of putting on the cover much smoother and quicker.

Inserting the Comforter into the Duvet Cover

Once you have your duvet cover and comforter prepared, it’s time to insert the comforter into the cover.

Starting at the head of the bed, roll the comforter and duvet cover together tightly. Roll until you reach the foot of the bed, making sure that the entire comforter is inside the duvet cover.

Once the comforter and cover are rolled together, unroll the two together so that the duvet cover is on top of the comforter. Then, grab the corners of the duvet cover and comforter and give them a good shake to help the comforter settle into the cover.

If your comforter doesn’t fit snugly inside the cover, you can adjust it by reaching inside and pulling the corners out to make sure the comforter is spread evenly throughout the cover.

Inserting the comforter into the duvet cover can be a bit tricky, but with some practice, you’ll be able to do it quickly and easily.

Shaking and Adjusting the Duvet Cover

After you have inserted the comforter into the duvet cover, it’s important to shake and adjust the cover to make sure everything is in place.

First, stand at the foot of the bed and hold onto the corners of the duvet cover. Give the cover a good shake to help the comforter settle into the corners.

Next, walk up the side of the bed and smooth out any wrinkles or bumps in the cover. Make sure that the comforter is evenly distributed inside the cover.

If your duvet cover has a design or pattern, make sure it’s facing the right way and that it’s positioned correctly on the bed.

By taking the time to shake and adjust the duvet cover, you’ll ensure that your bedding looks neat and tidy on your bed.

Securing the Duvet Cover with Ties or Buttons

Once you have shaken and adjusted the duvet cover, it’s time to secure it in place. If your duvet cover has ties or buttons, this is the step where you’ll use them.

Starting at the head of the bed, tie or button the duvet cover closed. Make sure that each tie or button is fastened securely to prevent the comforter from shifting inside the cover.

If your duvet cover doesn’t have ties or buttons, you can use safety pins to keep it closed. Simply insert a safety pin through both layers of the duvet cover and comforter at each corner and at intervals along the sides to keep the cover from shifting.

By securing the duvet cover in place, you’ll prevent the comforter from bunching up or shifting inside the cover, which can be uncomfortable during the night.

Adding Finishing Touches to Your Bedding

Now that your duvet cover is securely in place, it’s time to add some finishing touches to your bedding.

Start by fluffing up your pillows and arranging them on your bed. You can add some decorative pillows or throws for an extra cozy touch.

Next, smooth out any wrinkles or bumps in your sheets and blankets. Make sure that everything is aligned neatly on your bed.

If you want to add some extra warmth to your bedding, you can layer a blanket or quilt on top of your duvet cover. This will give your bed a cozy and inviting look.

Finally, take a step back and admire your handiwork. Your freshly made bed will be a welcoming sight at the end of a long day.
